Newcastle West End Foodbank provides emergency food and welfare support for people and households who are experiencing financial hardship. This can be food or fuel poverty, benefits issues, debt issues or the cost of living crisis. The Charity operates a network of seven Foodbank centres and welfare hubs in the Newcastle City region (Benwell, Byker, Heaton, Lemington, Newbiggin Hall, West Denton, West Road).
The Foodbank has a strong support base throughout the City and has a network of over 60 Referral Agencies including Newcastle City Council, Citizens Advice, DWP, Refugee Services, Housing Charities and more who signpost people in need to the Foodbank’s food and welfare support services.
Foodbank figures over the last 12 months show;
- Total number of food parcels issued between 31st March 2022 – 1st April 2023 at 23,709, representing an increase of 39% from the previous 12 months
- 287 tonnes of food were used to issue the food parcels between 31st March 2022 – 1st April 2023
