Newcastle Foodbank want to recruit new Trustees and welcome expressions of interest from experienced, competent, and compassionate people to join its Charity Trustee Board.
About the Foodbank
Our Charity was established in 2013 and in the intervening years has provided services to a growing number of people affected by food insecurity and poverty. The Foodbank is embarking on its next phase of development and wish to recruit new trustees who have the capability, expertise, and knowledge to complement the Board’s implementation of the Charity’s strategy. Our Foodbank is a major provider of emergency food for vulnerable people, and we offer welfare support and other services at our distribution centres located across the city.
Newcastle is home to a diverse range of communities and many often experience multiple deprivation and the scale of the challenge is significant. In the 12 months to 31st March 2023 the Foodbank issued over 24,000 food parcels, an average of 2,000 parcels each month. Approximately 62,000 people were beneficiaries of this food, which included 24,000 children living in families affected by poverty. This is a 44% increase on the previous year as more people struggle to cover household bills given the height cost of living, which arguably impacts vulnerable sections of the community and poorer households most. It required 288 tonnes of food to fulfil the food parcels issued across the City to support those people struggling to make ends meet.
Newcastle Foodbank is a Community Interest Organisation, registered charity (1152656), and a member of the Trussell Trust network.
The Trustee Role
We are a small but influential charity and want to recruit up to 3 new trustees in the coming months. The successful candidates will bring a range of attributes that complement the already existing Board skills sets. Individuals with expertise and relevant lived experience of the City’s diversity, cultures, social challenges, and welfare issues will view this role as an opportunity to change things for the better. We welcome expressions of interest from all sections of the community and value diversity and equality. We have an ambitious work programme, and the Board plays an active role in its oversight in conjunction with the Chief Executive Officer and our delivery partners across the city. Induction to the Charity will be provided and new trustees will be required to share their areas of expertise to benefit the charity’s governance. This is not an executive role. This is an exciting and challenging role for someone interested in joining a dynamic Board of experienced trustees who are shaping the future direction of the Charity.
