10 Year Anniversary

1st September 2023

We recently acknowledged our 10 year anniversary as a Foodbank. As a Charity, we provide emergency food and welfare support for people and households who are experiencing financial hardship. This can be food or fuel poverty, benefits issues, debt issues or the cost of living crisis. Since beginning back in 2013 with one Foodbank centre at the Venerable Bede church on the West Road, we now operate a network of seven Foodbank centres and welfare hubs in the Newcastle City region (Benwell, Byker, Heaton, Lemington, Newbiggin Hall, West Denton, West Road).

Christine Wood who has volunteered for our Charity for a decade said “During my ten years of volunteering for the Charity, we have continued to expand in response to the overwhelming demand for our services. It is sad that ten years later we still have to exist.”

John McCorry, our Chief Executive also commented “As we acknowledge our 10 year anniversary, we also commend our wonderful volunteers who are at the heart of everything we do as a Charity. We are privileged to continue to receive support from our volunteers who give up their time in aid of others. With food prices still rising and the 39% increase in demand for food parcels we have seen in the past financial year, the need for our services remains significant. However through the work and dedication of our volunteers, we continue to help those in need.”
